So you think you’re smart ey?

Graduate ako sa University of the Philippines, nakapagtapos “on time” ng kursong Fine Arts na *ahem* cum laude. Ito ngayon ang mahiwagang tanong:

EH ANO NGAYON??!!

Aaminin ko na pinagmamalaki ko itong achievement na ito, pero kailangan ko ba ng makapagtapos ng college para lang sumakay ng jeep? Kailangan ko ba ng maging cum laude para lang bumili sa tindahan? Actually wala naman pakialam ang mamang katabi ko sa MRT kung fine arts graduate ba ako o hindi.

Ayoko rin pinapakilala ako ng tao at sasabihin na “graduate yan sa UP, matalino yan. Cum laude.” Pwede ba. Hindi naman ako ganun katalino, in pak madami talagang mga bagay-bagay na simple lang sa iba pero hindi ko maintindihan (tulad ng fractions).

Sa pagnunulay-nulay ko sa bagay na ito may nabasa ako sa bible na isang interesanteng character, malamang nakarelate lang ako sa pagiging payak ng kanyang pag-iisip, sabihin nalang natin na “minsan”, tulad ko, hindi niya talaga pinag-iisipan sinasabi niya. Siya si Peter, isa sa mga disciples ni Jesus na laging nababanggit sa new testament.

 

Peter said the darnest things:

Ang mga ito ay halaw sa bible, pero nagdagdag lang ako ng konting imahinasyon ko sa kwento.

Matthew 15:10-16
Jesus: Listen and understand. What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean’. . . .

Peter: huh? Di ko gets. Pa-explain. . .

Jesus: di mo pa rin gets?! Hayz!

 

Luke 9:33 (the transfiguration)

Peter: Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

Jesus: . . .

 

John 13:6-10 (Jesus washes His disciples’ feet)
Peter: Lord, are you going to wash my feet?

Jesus: You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.

Peter: No! (shy aku)

Jesus: Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.

Peter: ganun ba? Lord, wag lang paa ko kung ganun! Paliguan mo ako! XD

Jesus: naligo ka na! paa lang. . . .

 

Matthew 14:22-36 (Umalis sa boat si Peter para siguraduhin nya kung si Jesus nga yung naglalakad sa ibabaw ng lake)
Peter: Lord kung ikaw nga yan papuntahin mo ako dyan. 

Jesus: Tara!

Peter: 0_o

 

Pero sa dinami daming mga darn moments ni Peter with Jesus (na hindi ko nabanggit dito) meron din syang nasabing tama. Habang ang mga ibang apostles ni Jesus ay nagpapaka know-it-all, sinabi lang ni Peter kung anung alam nya. (Matthew 16:13-19)

Jesus: who do you say I am? (looking at Peter)

Peter: You are the Christ, Son of the living God.

Jesus: Good answer Peter. I, Rock!!! (pinaikli ko nalang sinabi ni Jesus, haba e)

 

I am currently reading this book, “the Touch of God” by Rodney Howard-Browne, and meron syang interesting point about God’s anointing.

God doesn’t choose whom we would choose. God doesn’t look upon a person’s qualification. God doesn’t look upon [our] education. God doesn’t look upon [our] stature. [Our] abilities in the natural have nothing to do with Him placing His hand upon [us].

And the verses in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 support his statement.

26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather be called stupid in the standards of this world and yet have a meaningful relationship with God, than be the most intelligent being in the whole wide world but miss out the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
